Scammers & High Pressure Sales

Recently been made aware of some gutter and roofing companies taking advantage of people and scamming them out of very large amounts of money. Sometimes by forcing them to sign a contract to get their estimate or selling them an extremely expensive product they don’t need.

One example is a local home owner had to provide $10,000 to the salesman with the $13,000 balance due upon installation of the gutter cover. Thank goodness a concerned friend contacted us to see if that was a justified price.  We measured the home and even if we installed all new gutters and downspouts with our most expensive gutter cover (which is the same as the other company proposed to install) our estimate was less than $7,000. The worst part is they already had gutter covers and didn’t need this service.  That is $23,000 that company would have scammed from this couple.  Thankfully they were able to stop payment on that check.

A person in a neighboring town contacted us for a roof estimate, we provided the estimate and the homeowner informed us that someone from an out of town company had stopped by and had pressured them to sign a contract right then or they wouldn’t be able to get their senior discount.  Our estimate was much lower even after the “senior discount” but the homeowner had signed a contract with the out of town company.

Another instance was a roofing company that had the homeowner sign a contract for a very expensive new roof.  The homeowner had to get a bank loan. Thankfully the bank called us for a second estimate and with an “apples to apples” estimate the out of town company estimate was double what it should have been.

Lifetime Gutters will not pressure you and will not ask you for personal information.  You are always welcome to get a second estimate. Just please be careful as there are so many people in the world that like to try to take advantage of others.
